Don Capone Radio Career in Tampa Bay
MY RESUME...
My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got
canned ... couldn't concentrate.
Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack
it, so they gave me the axe.
After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it
... mainly because it was a so-so job.
Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was too
exhausting.
Then I tried to be a chef -- figured it would add a little spice too
my life but I just didn't have the
thyme.
I attempted to be a deli worker, but any way I sliced it, I couldn't
cut the mustard.
My best job was being a musician, but eventually I found I wasn't
noteworthy.
I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn't have any
patience.
Next was a job in a shoe factory; I tried but I just didn't fit in.
I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't
live on my net income.
I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company,
but the work was just too draining.
So then I got a job in a workout center, but they said I wasn't fit
for the job.
After many years of trying to find steady work I finally got a job
as a historian until I realized there was
no future in it.
My last job was working at Starbucks, but I had to quit because it
was always the same old grind.
SO I RETIRED AND I FOUND I AM PERFECT FOR THE JOB!
Got my FCC broadcasting License in 1979 ... I was
19... did a bunch of go-for radio jobs and spun records in some of
the biggest night clubs in Tampa Bay... ( in no particular order )
like: The Mark Twain, 49th Street Mining Company, Quarterdeck
Lounge, The Rockin Crown Lounge, Confetti Tampa, the Turtle Club,
Coyotes... to name a few.

Born in April of 1960 in the Bronx, New York City... I have been
blessed...
Started doing voice over in 2000 while I was still in radio...
then after I retired from radio in 2001 I went full throttle as a Male Voice Over Talent...
and never once looked back...
Well... in June 2008 my phone rings and its CBS
Q105 asking me to
come in and do a all request radio show called Q105 Sunday Night at
the 60's... I spoke with Q105 Rico Blanco who I have known for years
and has always remained a great friend to me.... I told Rico that I
was done with radio and really had no desire to get back into it...
We talked about the radio business and such... and by the end of the
conversation Rico almost had me talked back in Radio... I told him
to give me a day or two to think about it...
My good friend
Scotty
Phillips who I worked with at
95ynf was doing
Q105 Sunday Night at the 60's and had to leave for personal reasons.
I called Scotty and told him about the Q105 offer and that with his
blessing I think Im going to do it just for the fun of it... Scotty
gave me the nod and I called Rico and said ...its a go!!
I told Scotty anytime he wanted back... it was all his:)
Well... here I am.. now doing Sunday nights 7p - 12m working at the
legendary Q105 and for the legend himself Mason Dixon. I did work
for Mason Dixon once before at Mix96 and he was always a good guy to
me.
Although I always had a passion for radio... One shift
is enough for me... I look at it as fun... and gets me out of the
house for a few hours...
My main gig is a Voice Actor..
I have done Movie Trailers to Documentaries and a whole lot of
automotive commercials all over the USA... I have done radio imaging
to video games... and I love my job... there's nothing like it!
Latest Update: 8/18/2008 : I have left Q105 ... It was a
fun... and I am welcomed back anytime... but in my life right now..
between doing voice overs and spending time with the family... and
running a few different businesses.... my time is just so
limited.... Life is good:) |
